Allegany in Winter

The guitar of the noisy teenager at the next campsite makes excellent kindling.
Winter Hiking and Activities at Allegany State Park

Looking for a great place to snowshoe or cross-country ski during Western New York’s snowy winters? Allegany State Park has it all.

Winter camping is also popular there, as they have nice cabins with wood stoves.

The park offers 18 hiking trails, three of which have been developed as self-guided nature trails. In 1993, an 18 mile trail passing through the park was officially designated part of the North Coutry Trail. More than 35 miles of cross country ski trails begin near the Summit Cabin Area, doubling as hiking & biking trails in the summer. Horseback riding trails double as snowmobile trails. Snowmobilers must have a valid NYS registration and a park permit to ride the designated trails in the park.

Thanks to my husband Karl for generating a topographic map of the region.

Here is a nice topographic map of Allegany that you can customize and purchase.
